The Institutes' New Associate in Risk Management (ARM)
Designation Positions Individuals to Build More Resilient Risk Strategies

MALVERN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Risk management has moved from a behind-the-scenes safeguard to a core part of how organizations set strategy. Leaders expect today’s risk professionals to proactively identify emerging threats, improve organizational resilience, and help guide key business decisions across complex and evolving risk environments. In fact, more than 1,300 experts stated that decision-makers must weigh both immediate and longer-term risks with clearer executive-level insights, according to a recent McKinsey report. To answer that shift, The Institutes Designations have extensively updated the Associate in Risk Management (ARM™) with all-new content that equips individuals with a practical framework that strengthens decision-making and supports more proactive risk management strategies.

The new ARM follows a connected learning approach that builds from foundational risk management techniques, to technology-informed risk strategies and opportunities, to applying concepts across realistic organizational risk scenarios. Rather than leaning on conceptual instruction, the program uses realistic case studies and scenario-based content inspired by real organizational situations to provide individuals with a more skills-based learning experience. By incorporating topics like AI, data analytics, automation, and emerging technology, ARM helps learners understand how traditional risk management strategies are evolving in today’s business environment.

“Risk management is becoming more connected across the business, which means that strong technical skills alone are no longer enough,” said Adam Carmichael, CPCU, President of The Institutes Knowledge Group. “Professionals not only need to be able to interpret risk data clearly, but also effectively collaborate across operations, compliance, finance, and leadership functions. We built the new Associate in Risk Management designation to develop those skills and more, preparing RMI talent to guide strategy and strengthen resilience across the organization.”

The Associate in Risk Management (ARM) is backed by The Institutes' experience as a not-for-profit since 1909, committed to helping individuals and organizations succeed by educating, elevating, and connecting those interested in risk management and insurance to create a more informed, resilient world. Designed for RMI professionals in both insurance roles and across other industries, ARM empowers them to strengthen their strategic influence while staying ahead of emerging risks and technologies. With three new courses and an ethics requirement from The Institutes Knowledge Group, the new program provides designation completers with practical knowledge and strategic skills to navigate today’s evolving business risks with greater confidence.
