Kyaira Overs
We celebrate Black History Month by sharing insights from our enterprise employees. We appreciate this opportunity to recognize the work they do to contribute to an uplifting company culture. Thank you, Kyaira Overs!
What is your role and how long have you worked at The Institutes
I am the DE&I Programming and Partnerships Coordinator for The Institutes. I coordinate DEI programs and webinars internally as well as coordinate events, programs, and webinars for the Black Insurance Industry Collective, affiliated with The Institutes. I have been with the Institutes since May 2023.
What inspired you to get into your current role?
I have always been a DEI advocate and have been able to do this under my previous role working with programs under the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida, creating content as a teacher and being a school counseling student. Going into my current role has allowed me to do this directly and I enjoy being a part of making a difference in the industry of risk management and insurance.
What accomplishments are you most proud of professionally and/or personally?
I am a first-generation college graduate and professional in my family. I am grateful to be able to trailblaze for my other siblings graduating behind me. I am also a proud mama of my sweet 2-year-old girl.
What is something most people don't know about you?
I love to create- whether that’s through cooking, painting, or playing an instrument- I am an artist at heart. It is a fun way to express myself and always keeps me learning something new. I also love sports and have played basketball, volleyball and ran track and cross country.
What does Black History Month mean to you?
To me, Black History Month is every month, and every day. It’s a time to reflect on the history and achievements of all black people and celebrate and reflect on the contributions that have been made all around the world.
